Armond arrived in Casper in the late 1950s after his hitch in the Army working for Bob Berger at KTWO. After a few years he was lured to KATI by Ken and Mischa Prather to do the "Hooty Owl" show nights between 9:00 p.m. and midnight. Originally the program was live but later automated using the Gates "Nitewatch" automation system. The show was a success with all the young people in Casper and I know I listened all the time. After a few years he moved on to KOOK Radio Billings, Montana. When not on the air, Armond would drive around Casper in his blue and white Nash Metropolitan with a Heathkit six meter transceiver talking with hams around the country.
I had a chance to catch up on old times with Armond at the Dayton Hamvention in 2003 and is currently the editor of World Radio living in Sacramento. His call sign is N6WR. |
