Clarence followed his brothers into the mines at 13. He
also followed them into the Arion band where he played trombone with his
brothers Tom and Bill.

Clarence Powers in the late 1940s as he was looking for another trombone player to join the
family.
When it came time for me to learn an instrument, the
trombone seemed a natural. Clarence and I marched and played trombone together in the same
parade during the summer of 1965.

Clarence received this award for the First in Safety for seven straight
years in the Maryland Division. Also he received the award for first place in all
divisions during one of those years.
