Guy Hoffman

Up

The old friends are the best!  Guy Hoffman and I have known each other since 1958 when I arrived in Casper.

Guy played clarinet and I played trombone in all music groups in central Wyoming during our school years.  Along with Pete Banta, (French horn) and Tim Kaye, (clarinet), we played in the Casper Civic Symphony, Junior Symphony, NCHS Symphony, Casper City Band.

After high school Guy joined the Navy, played his clarinet in various music groups, went to Casper College, the University of Wyoming, got married and moved to Haines, Alaska in the 1970s.

In 2002 I traveled to Alaska where Guy showed me the delightful place he lived and introduced to me to his many friends.

Guy sold his salmon fishing business a few years ago and became a full time wood turner. He recently completed his shop and acquired a new lathe.

Every May 10th the town of Haines, Alaska, (almost everyone) turns out at Guys' place for his birthday celebration.  In May 2005 Guy had just finished his new shop with the help of his friends Pete and Gerald when the party was held.

Guy passed away on January 17, 2006 while ice skating on Chilkoot Lake with his friends Pete and Paul.  Guy was a great friend and one hell of a person. I will miss him.
