I joined Homestake in May of 1999 as Director of MIS. One of the benefits of working in a gold mining company is visiting the Homestake Mine in Lead, South Dakota. The Homestake Mine is the oldest operational gold mine in America operating at depths to 8000 feet below the surface. The temperature of the walls at that level is up to 135 degrees Fahrenheit.

On December 14, 2001, Homestake was acquired by Barrick Gold of Toronto. Homestake CEO, Jack Thompson and I share a moment at the shareholder's meeting in Walnut Creek.
