I first met Larry Landes when I worked in television as an engineer at KTVU, Channel 2 in Oakland in the late 1970s.I was a computer hobbyist and Larry was the ENG, (Electronic News Gathering) Manager who knew everything about how to get that really difficult remote shot back to the station. Larry taught me about video engineering and I taught him what I knew about computers. Of course everything I knew about computers, I learned with my buddy Juan Rivera who I met at KCBS a few years before. He was working over at KNEW just south of us across Jack London Square and we shared computer information at lunch on many days. After I left KTVU, Juan moved over to KTVU and worked with Larry for a number of years and ultimately sailed to Hawaii together in the early 1980s.Every few years Larry, Juan and I get together and show our toys off in Larry's shop. Larry is also a superb carpenter aside from his 33 plus years in ENG at KTVU. There are certain people in that focus life's interests.Larry and Juan have been that for me.
